astro-caffeine since November 14th, 2000

  1. Are you tired of talks where people talk about stuff you never heard of?

  2. Are you unable to keep up with the large number of daily Astro-ph abstracts? (If you do not know what Astro-ph is, then the answer is yes.)

  3. Do you ever have the feeling that astronomy is going forward but you can't keep up with it?

Astro Coffee is a weekly meeting held at the University of Pittsburgh on Thursdays at 4:00pm in Allen Hall 316 and was orignally proposed and organized in November 2000 by Alberto Conti. Dr. Conti has since passed on the brew torch to Jeff Gardner.

The format is simple: strong coffee and about ~25 of the most recent astro-ph abstracts. We will discuss the most interesting ones and learn about new results in the process.

The format and spirit of Astro Coffee is due to the efforts of David Weinberg at the Ohio State University (OSU). Since its introduction, ~8 years ago or so, Astro Coffee has become a tradition at OSU and has helped to create a very dynamic and interactive department. OSU Astro Coffee meets daily at 10:30am.
